Melissa was born and raised in Severna Park, Maryland. With a keen interest in how things work, she spent her high school years dedicated to robotics, designing Punkin’ Chunkers and considered a future in engineering. In undergrad her interests shifted to focus on people and what makes them tick, which resulted in her degree in Psychology from Furman University. To combine her work in human behavior with systems, she acquired a Master’s in Instructional Systems Design, from UMBC (essentially designing adult learning programs). Following her degrees, she took some time to travel throughout the South Pacific and learn about the wine industry.
No matter how far she roams, there is no parallel to Washington, DC in the arts, culture, great minds, ambitious people and timeless beauty. In 2014, she got her licenses in D.C., Maryland and Virginia, started with a commercial real estate brokerage, The Genau Group in Georgetown, and started her own house flipping company, Octopus Properties Inc. She renovated two properties within her first year and has a solid understanding of the investor mindset. There is nothing quite like a good project. She shifted gears in 2015 from the commercial side to residential deals and made the brokerage transition to RLAH Real Estate, as they were better equipped to support her new focus.
With all her in-depth understanding of the commercial, residential, and investor aspects of real estate, what Melissa enjoys the most is coaching first-time home buyers through the process. She understands their needs and interests, and her experience makes her a top rate match-maker for human and home.
When I'm not selling real estate
