The northern Virginia suburbs are plentiful. In fact there are so many towns with growth that they are ranked among the fastest growing in the nation. However, just 15 miles from downtown DC, there is still what is considered by many to be a hidden gem: Falls Church, Virginia. Falls Church is the quant township between Arlington and Fairfax that has kept its identity as small town America, no matter the decade. Taking its name from The Falls Church, an 18th-century Anglican parish, Falls Church gained township status within Fairfax County in 1875. However in 1948, it was incorporated as the City of Falls Church, an independent city with county-level governance status.
Since its incorporation in the 1940’s this wooded, park filled community has thrived to provide the best a town can offer. From schools, to services, to community camaraderie, it has shared the finest of suburban living with those that call it home. With dedicated leadership through the decades, it has grown, the city determined to keep the small town feel while not foregoing expansion in education while keeping businesses thriving. Instead of high rises, there are trails. Instead of overdevelopment, there are 12 parks strewn across the town giving those who love the outdoors a place to commune from right out side their homes.
Yes, homes of all kinds can be found here. From the traditional single family homes to the newly built classic on wide boulevards to brand new luxury condos on Broad street, Falls Church offers a little bit of everything for the buyer who understands that Falls Church is, indeed, very special.
Today, community spirit drives Falls Church as much as it did decades ago. From volunteerism to commerce, to taking care of its green land to its farmer’s market. The people that live here have a haven among the convenience of it all. After all, it does sit between two metro stops on the Orange line. Yes, Falls Church has it all. Proximity to down town, small town feel, community spirit. If this speaks to you, then Falls Church might just be the place you should call home.
